The deluded TDS narrative of “Russia Russia Russia” continues to circulate, especially whenever events involve ending the war in Ukraine, then the media, the Dems, and the unhinged “resistance” goes into high gear with their baseless rhetoric, “Trump’s caving to Putin!” “Trump’s Putin’s Puppet!” “Trump’s a KGB asset!”
For people truly interested though in reality, that have the band width, both moral and intellectual for taking the time to inform themselves with data, gasp, evidence and information that is not some cheap shot or sloganeering against President Trump, today’s recommendation for an expert, insider’s informed discussion on the real history of how the Ukraine situation has turned out as it has, Europe’s hand, and sometimes the US’s hand in destabilizing relations between Russia and NATO, between Russia and the US, through the intense but perhaps misguided frames vilifying everything Russian, and maintaining when it comes to international relationships that should be geared towards if not outright peace at least towards global stability, persistently painting Putin as the perennial demon of the world.
And while the latter has historical support for that proposition, in the world of precarious diplomatic and much needed “good relations,” at this point in time cutting off Putin and continuing the demonization of him is not a practical approach or stance for the U.S.’s or even Europe’s future.
As the Ukraine matter has unfolded under President Trump’s foreign policy objectives, to establish the conditions for world peace, or as possible outright world peace. As applied to Ukraine, the public record shows that President Trump when it comes to Ukraine and Russian President Putin’s regard is being pragmatic.
That pragmatism is based on the on-the-ground reality that Putin has already accomplished many of his objectives where the eastern bloc provinces of Ukraine are concerned, secured them in in large part as Russian speaking, culturally aligned people and land masses, and made them part of Russia’s zone of interest and influence, creating a buffer zone between Russia and Ukraine, and if necessary against the rest of Europe.
Please listen today to former Ambassador Chas Freeman’s comprehensive, highly informative talk about the history of Ukraine and Russian relationship to each other, Ukraine’s true relationship it was to have with Europe, with Russia, including that Ukraine was always intended to by treaty to be neutral, that it was never to have sought NATO membership, and that it has a history of being a closet, barely dictatorship. It’s reputation also is that it it is the most corrupt and repressive Eastern Bloc country, which includes a history of mistreating especially those identifying as and prefering to live out their lives as Russian people.
As the former Ambassador and distinguished government administrator notes, there are many derogatory statements being made about President Trump and his interactions, actual or imagined with President Putin, “That Mr. Trump proposes to give Mr. Putin everything he wants. Well, Mr. Putin already has the territories in Ukraine. He already has ‘won the war’ for all intents and purposes. If the war goes on he will take more of Ukraine. And so what Mr. Trump is doing it seems to me he is recognizing realities of the war as produced. And those are unfortunate. They have been particularly unfortunate for Ukrainians, who may have lost as many as a million men in the battles, who have been depopulated, deindustrialized, de-democratized, and who are, remain the poorest and most corrupt society in Europe.”
